What Brought Me to Birth Work

My path to birth work began in a very organic way with the birth of my own son. Despite taking a birth class with my husband, I still felt unprepared for what unfolded during labor. My husband is an incredible partner, but the class didn’t teach him how to truly support me through the intensity and emotion of birth. I also realized that many things in hospital birth are done routinely, and at the time I didn’t fully understand that many of those procedures were actually options. Looking back, I wish I had known more about informed consent and that families deserve to understand their choices and be active participants in their care. That experience sparked something in me and ignited a passion to help families feel informed, supported, and empowered during birth.

Over the years, I was invited to support several friends and family members through their births, and many even welcomed me back for the births of their subsequent children. Those experiences confirmed what my heart already knew.

A few years later, I became a foster mom to medically fragile infants. Caring for these tiny, vulnerable babies was incredibly rewarding and further deepened my love for nurturing families during such tender seasons of life. It was during that time that I realized my passions for caregiving, advocacy, and birth support naturally belonged together.

From that moment on, I knew that supporting women and families through pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period was exactly where my heart was meant to be.

Why I Do This Work

Simply put, I do this work for the reasons I shared above. I want mothers to feel deeply loved, well supported, and fully informed so they can feel confident and empowered in the decisions they make for themselves and their babies.

I believe that every mother, no matter how her birth story unfolds, should be able to look back and feel that she was heard, respected, and supported every step of the way. Birth may not always go exactly as planned, but when a mother feels informed, cared for, and surrounded by compassionate support, it can still be an incredibly powerful and meaningful experience.

What I Bring to Your Birth / Postpartum Journey

Families often describe my support style as calm, grounding, nurturing, and steady. I bring a peaceful presence into the room so you can focus on your birth and your baby, knowing someone is there just for you.

My approach is both intuitive and supportive. I gently guide, encourage, and educate so you feel informed and confident in the decisions you make throughout your journey. I also enjoy helping partners feel comfortable and empowered in their role so they can be the best possible support for you.

During birth, I strive to be a steady presence, offering reassurance, practical comfort measures, and emotional support when you need it most. In the postpartum period, I bring that same nurturing care as your family settles into life with your new baby.

Comfort Measures & Support in Labor

If you would like a glimpse into some of the ways I support families during labor, here are just a few of the comfort measures I offer:

• Hands-on comfort techniques such as massage, hip squeezes, and helpful labor positions

• Continuous emotional reassurance and a calm, steady presence

• Guidance and encouragement for partners so they feel confident in supporting you

• Evidence-based information to help you feel informed and empowered throughout labor

I also bring a few supportive tools that many families find helpful during labor, including a birth sling, birth combs, and battery-operated candles to help create a calming environment.

A Little About Me

I’m so lucky to be married to my best friend, Phillip. We met in seventh grade and ten years later I became his wife. Together we raised two wonderful children. Our son Derrick is now a grown man with a family of his own, and our daughter Bianca will always hold a special place in our hearts. She passed away in 2017. We miss her deeply every day and try to live life boldly and joyfully, just like she did.

Phillip and I love spending time together and making memories through travel and little adventures. We had an incredible trip to Italy in July of 2025 and are excitedly planning a trip to Spain later this year. We also enjoy day trips to go hiking, exploring new places, and trying new things.

In my everyday life, I enjoy reading, meeting friends for coffee, and attending a fun game night whenever I can. Our home is also shared with our sweet senior dog, Oliver, who loves a good snuggle.

One Thing I Want Families to Know

If there is one thing I want families to know about me, it is that your experience matters deeply to me. I want you to feel cared for, supported, informed, and truly heard throughout your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

My role is to provide evidence-based information so you can make the decisions that feel right for you and your family. I do not have a bias about how you give birth or the choices you make. My goal is simply to support you with compassion, respect, and steady care.

Your birth story belongs to you, and it is truly an honor for me to walk alongside you and support you in whatever way best serves your journey.
