Hi, I’m Heather!

Hi, my name is Heather Galmish, and I have been practicing as a doula since 2026. I joined Rebecca Rose Doula Services in 2026, and I support families through birth and postpartum. I have attended 2 births throughout my career.

While my professional doula journey is just beginning, my fascination with pregnancy, childbirth, and motherhood has been lifelong.

I’m committed to continuing my education, expanding my skills, and combining knowledge with compassion to help families feel confident and supported.

Because when it comes to babies and birth, I don’t think I’ll ever stop being amazed!

What Brought Me to Birth Work

I think I was born wanting to be a mother. Seriously! While other little girls were dreaming about what they wanted to be when they grew up, I was already dreaming about babies and motherhood.

My own two birth experiences shaped the way I view childbirth and the importance of compassionate support.

My first birth, with my son Joel in 2001, left me feeling unheard, overwhelmed, and unaware of the choices available to me. It was a traumatic experience that stayed with me.

When I welcomed my daughter Julia in 2003, my experience was entirely different. I understood my options, my wishes were respected, and I felt like an active participant in my birth rather than a bystander.

Those experiences taught me something I would carry with me for years: How a woman is treated during childbirth matters, not just in that moment, but long after her baby is in her arms.

Years later, I had the incredible privilege of supporting my daughter as her doula during the births of her two children at a California birth center.

Witnessing my own daughter bring her babies into the world was unforgettable. It deepened my appreciation for physiological birth, the incredible capabilities of the female body, and the difference knowledgeable, compassionate support can make.

Somewhere in the middle of all that wonder, I just knew.

I wanted to be part of this beautiful world of birth. I wanted to help women discover their strength, understand their options, and welcome their babies feeling supported and empowered.

Looking back, all the pieces fit together. My lifelong love of motherhood, my own contrasting birth experiences, and the privilege of witnessing my grandchildren’s births all led me here.

And while it may have taken me a few decades to find my way into birth work, I couldn’t be happier to call myself a doula.

Why I Do This Work

I believe every woman deserves to feel heard, respected, and genuinely supported during one of the most meaningful experiences of her life.

One of the biggest reasons I became a doula is simple: I want to give women the kind of support I wish I had received during my first birth.

I’m passionate about helping women find their voices, understand their options, and feel confident making decisions that are right for them.

I don’t believe there is one perfect way to give birth, but I do believe every woman deserves to feel empowered in her own experience.

Birth can be beautiful, unpredictable, emotional, and sometimes a little messy. Through it all, I want to be a steady, encouraging presence who listens, reassures, helps you advocate for your preferences, and reminds you just how capable you are.

My goal isn't to tell you how to have your baby. It's to help you feel confident and fully supported having your baby, your way.

Because your birth, your body, and your voice matter.

What I Bring to Your Birth

I’ve always been someone people feel comfortable opening up to. Whether they’re sharing their joys, worries, or something deeply personal, I’ve been told I have a way of making people feel safe, heard, and understood. I consider that one of my greatest compliments.

I’m warm, nurturing, easygoing, and a good listener, but I’m also honest, practical, and not easily rattled.

I can be your calm in the chaos, your biggest cheerleader, or the person who helps you navigate your options when things don’t go quite as planned.

I believe there’s a time for gentle reassurance, a time for straightforward conversation, and absolutely a time for a little humor. Sometimes laughter really is the best medicine, although I wouldn't necessarily recommend it during a contraction!

Above all, I bring a kind heart, a steady presence, and a genuine desire to make you feel comfortable, confident, and cared for.

I’ll respect your wishes, honor your space, and support you without judgment.

More than anything, I want you to feel comfortable being yourself with me, knowing you can share your fears, ask questions, speak your mind, and trust that I’ll be right there beside you.

A Little About Me

When I’m not talking about babies or birth, you’ll usually find me spending time with my family, dreaming up my next vacation, gardening, cooking, or convincing my husband that we really do need to start another home project!

My husband Matt and I have been together for 15 years, and we have two grown children. My daughter is actually a doula herself and was the one who encouraged me to take the leap into birth work. Apparently, a love for babies runs in the family!

And then there are my grandbabies. Oh, those two!

I’m the grandma who spoils them, cries when they leave, texts them when they’re gone, and buys them little gifts just because something reminded me of them. Their artwork is proudly displayed all over my house, and yes, they even have their own playroom. I’ve fully embraced my role, and I’m not even pretending otherwise!

I love traveling, being near the water, and finding new outfits at Marshall’s.

And here’s a fun fact: I’ve been posting my own birthday rap songs on Instagram for about six years now. Because apparently, a simple “Happy Birthday” just isn’t my style!

Life is meant to be enjoyed, family is everything to me, and I firmly believe you’re never too old to be a little ridiculous.

One Thing I Want Families to Know

You don’t have to have everything figured out before your baby arrives. You don’t need the perfect birth plan, all the answers, or even to know exactly what you want just yet.

Birth can be beautiful, exciting, overwhelming, and sometimes downright hard. I know firsthand that things don’t always go as planned, and that’s okay.

What matters is knowing you have someone beside you who genuinely cares, listens, and helps you navigate those moments.

If you invite me into your birth experience, I want you to feel comfortable being completely yourself with me. Ask the questions, share the fears, laugh, cry, or tell me when you’ve had enough. You won’t have to put on a brave face for my benefit.

More than anything, I hope that when you look back on your birth, you’ll remember me as someone you could lean on. Someone who helped you find your calm when things felt overwhelming, reminded you of your strength when you needed it most, and stayed steady beside you through the hard moments.

If I can be that for you, then I’ve done exactly what I came to do.
